Autumn Talk given by Peter Hancock

Life in Henley in the 30's and 40's

Peter was born at 5 New Street Henley and has lived in and around the town all of his life. You may  remember him as the founder, together with his step-brother Don Hookins, of General Decorating Supplies (GDS) which traded in the town at various locations for many years . Peter will be showing and talking to his films of Henley on VE/VJ Day and the first regatta after World War II attended by Princess Elizabeth.

Peter last addressed the Society in 2002 and the then Chairman, Captain Nick Rutherford, described the evening as 'one of the best Society events he had attended'.  I think we could be in for an interesting and entertaining evening.

Ticket pricing will be announced shortly.

Tuesday 6th December 2022 11 am

On 6th December 1961 the Henley Society was formed at a meeting in the Town Hall. The Society came about following the actions of a group of Henley residents who objected to a proposal to raise the Catherine Wheel to the ground and replace it with a row of shops. And so on the 60th Anniversary we are holding a celebratory breakfast with fizz in the Catherine Wheel to celebrate the Society's birthday, and a blue plaque will be unveiled by the Mayor of Henley, Cllr.Michelle Thomas, to mark the occasion. Full details, including booking arrangements in due course.
